J Blacks Feel Good Lounge

Entrance of J BLACKS downtown on West 6th Street

J Blacks, similar to most the bars on 6th St., is on the more sophisticated side. Located in the heart of West Sixth Street, this venue is an awesome place to go sit and have a drink while you watch any sporting event that is playing. The game is projected onto a large screen that basically takes up the entire wall at the entrance of the bar.

But the big TV isn’t the only thing that is great about this place! Happy Hour at J Blacks has awesome deals! If you take a look at the menu, all the Sharing Plates that are starred are half off, starting as low as $3.50. In terms of drinks at J Blacks Happy Hour, everything is $1 off and all bottles are 25 percent off. So if you are looking for a place to go with a friend for drinks and appetizers, or a place to sit and watch the game, this is definitely a good spot for you.

There is a great atmosphere almost all the time at J Blacks. The crowd usually consists of young professionals who are interested in mingling with other people around their age. The venue is conveniently located on West 6th St. next to many other hot spots like The Ranch and Third Base Bar. If you go to J Blacks on Thursdays or Saturdays I would definitely consider sticking around for the later hours of the night. J Blacks is one of my favorite places to hit up on Thursday and Saturday nights because the crowd is always great, it has great location, and something that may appeal to smokers, you can smoke inside the bar where the big TV is (it is outdoors but you are still considered to be inside the bar). I noticed this aspect was especially favorable to some of the men who were watching the game for hours on the big screen TV. Overall I would definitely give this venue and its Happy Hour a thumbs-up.

Happy Hour Schedule:

**All Happy Hours consist of $1 off all drinks, sharing plates with stars are half off, and bottles are 25% off.

Monday-Thursday: Happy Hour from 4pm to 8 pm

Fridays: Opens at 11 am and has a lunch special until 4 pm à $10 pizzas, $2 for one pint of J Blacks’ selected beer of that month. Then Happy Hour starts at 4 pm and goes until 8 pm.

Saturdays: Happy Hour from 4 pm until 2 am.

**During football season: No Happy Hours on Saturday away games but if it is a home game they open extra early at around 10 am.

Vino Vino

If you are looking for a place to enjoy happy hour that is more on the sophisticated side, Vino Vino is definitely the place for you. The restaurant is a winery with excellent food and a great happy hour schedule. The Evening Happy Hour at Vino Vino is Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 7 pm. The menu consists of $2 off any glass of wine, half-priced, select draft beer and 6 half-priced appetizers. In addition to this great Happy Hour menu, Vino Vino also has Late Night Happy Hour also known as Reverse Happy Hour. These reverse hours go on Sunday through Thursday from 10 pm until 12 am. The menu for reverse happy hour consists of $2 off any glass of wine, half-priced, and select draft beer.

I went to Vino Vino with a couple of my girl friends to enjoy some Happy Hour drinks and appetizers. We all got different kinds of wine but I went for the Moscato, which I absolutely loved. The Moscato was regular $13 but at happy hour it was only $7. Although this may seem a little pricy still for some, if you are looking for a place to unwind after a long day and catch up with your friends while sipping on some tasty wine, Vino Vino is definitely the place for you. In addition to the wine, I also ordered the Calamari with chorizo and tomato as an appetizer. This was fantastic. The Calamari is regularly priced at $9 but during happy hour it was only $4. I would say that is definitely a bargain.

The evening at Vino Vino was incredibly enjoyable. It is definitely a good place to go if you are planning on having only one glass of wine. While the restaurant has a great atmosphere and mouth-watering menu, it can become a bit expensive if you are planning on having more than one drink and one appetizer. Overall though, I definitely give this happy hour a thumbs-up.

Santa Rita Tex Mex Cantina

If you are looking for a happy hour that has great Tex Mex and cheap drinks, Santa Rita is definitely a great choice. Santa Rita’s Happy Hours are Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 pm and Saturday through Sunday from 3 to 6 pm. The happy hour menu for this restaurant is different every day of the week so for details refer to the hyperlink above.

What I love most about Santa Rita is the atmosphere. I go to Santa Rita with my roommates usually at least once every week or every other week. When my roommates and I are craving Queso and Margaritas, Santa Rita is our go-to place. I will usually order a frozen margarita there and during happy hour on Friday’s they are only $3.95. You can choose from four different flavors as well: Fresh Lime, Strawberry, Swirl and Mango. If you are a margarita kind of gal, then this will definitely strike your fancy. Another one of our favorite nights to go to Santa Rita is on Wednesday’s where we can get the special $3 Small nachos along with the choice of a $3 house margarita, $2 Draft Miller Lite’s, and a XX Larger.

If you are looking to be frugal but still enjoy a night out with your friends at happy hour, you should check out Santa Rita. This place not only has great deals on its happy hour menu, but it also has a very good atmosphere. I definitely give Santa Rita a thumbs-up.

Great Crowd, Great Food, and Most Importantly, Great Drinks: Happy Hour at Opal Divine’s Freehouse Pub & Restaurant

Opal Divine’s Freehouse Pub & Restaurant – 700 West 6th Street, Austin – (512) 477-3308

Sunday afternoon at Opal Divine's Austin Grill

The outdoors deck overlooking 6th Street gives Opal Divine’s Austin Grill a fun feel and allows for maximized socializing during Happy Hour. Not only do you get to enjoy the beautiful Austin weather when you sit on their front deck, but it is a great atmosphere to catch up with your friends over a few cocktails and delicious food.

Lucky for those who like to have a cocktail every day, this restaurant has a drink special for every day of the week. A specific detail that may grab your attention is their Wednesday’s All Day Special of two Texas beers for only $2.50. Some of the options include Live Oak, Real Ale, Independence, and Shiner.

This restaurant has prime location on West 6th Street and is always pretty busy.

Happy Hour menu for each day of the week.

It is not packed to the point where it will take a long time to get a table, but there are always just enough people there to make the spot feel alive.

Since this restaurant has such a variety of drinks and choices, click the link to download a copy of their Drink Menu.

This place was a lot of fun and has great deals for every day of the week. I would definitely give them a thumbs-up.

All Day Happy Hour Sundays at The Ranch

View from The Ranch downtown on West 6th St.

The Ranch: 710 West 6th Street, Austin, TX 78701 (512) 465-2016

The Ranch, located on West Sixth St. in downtown Austin, has Happy Hour going on all day on Sundays. While The Ranch is definitely one of my favorite spots to hit up on Thursday and Saturday nights, I would not recommend this venue for Happy Hour. This place has a really chill atmosphere at night so one would assume that it is a good place to go to on Sundays to watch sports, with their many small flat screen TV’s surrounding the bar as well as a big screen TV on the wall closer to the outdoor deck. Nevertheless, the thing The Ranch is missing is people! The bar was practically empty today, minus one couple that was eating lunch. If employees at The Ranch could maybe promote their Happy Hour a little better I think it would really impact their turn out.

As far as the menu goes, the deals aren’t that great. The first thing that turned me off from The Ranch’s Happy Hour today, besides the fact that there was nobody there, was when I asked the bartender for a menu of their Happy Hour options, he told me that they did not have one. So in terms of the prices for the drinks, here is what he told me: It is basically $1 off everything. Anheuser-Busch beverages are $3, Well Liquors are $4 and Call Drinks are $5.

The atmosphere is lacking, the prices aren’t so great for Happy Hour, and it doesn’t really seem like they are so organized based on the fact that they did not have a menu to even show me. In addition, their website has been under construction for about two weeks now, which can really hurt business because information about the bar is not easily accessible even through a simple Google search. The only thing you can really determine when looking up the bar on Google is their address and telephone number. Overall, I’d have to give this Happy Hour a thumbs-down.
