Trudy’s Tex-Mex: an absolute must for any Austinite

April 3, 2011 § 1 Comment

Monday – Friday 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Weekend brunch specials until 3:00 p.m.

Trudy’s has become a popular location for anyone who lives or has lived in Austin, and is frequently one of the first places people go when visiting or showing friends around the city. Renowned for their particularly potent Mexican Martinis, all three of the locations are bustling with people eager to enjoy these drinks for a discounted price of $7, as well as the wide assortment of other beverages they offer. Though each location has a limit of 2 martinis, those who think their alcohol tolerances will enable them to drink 6 can try the Trudy’s Challenge and hit all three locations in one night.

The Famous Mexican Martini

Happy Hour at Trudy’s goes from 2:00 to 7:00 Monday through Friday, with varying drink specials each day and the majority of drinks running at $4-$5. Tuesday through Friday, Mexican Martinis cost $8 at happy hour. On the weekends, Trudy’s offers brunch specials until noon, where drinks cost $2.50, and Bloody Marys, Ruby Red Margaritas, Screwdrivers, Mimosas and more for $4.50 until 3:00 p.m.

As a college student, Trudy’s is one of my favorite places to go for cheap drinks. I’ve attended happy hours at other places on campus, and while the prices are reasonable, the drinks are often poorly made and in most cases, I haven’t gone back to these places a second time. Generally, I get a Mexican Martini at Trudy’s, but I’ve also tried their frozen margaritas. They come in a variety of different fruit flavors and are fantastic, despite the brain freeze that accompanies them. I’ve also tried Mexican Martinis at other restaurants and can very confidently say that they absolutely do not compare to the ones served at Trudy’s.

I’ve been to a couple different Trudy’s locations, and it is always a generally fun place to go. Nearly every week, my friends suggest going at least for Martini Monday. In addition, they offer free Mexican Martinis on your birthday, so that’s always another great excuse to go. I’ve never been there when it hasn’t been crowded, meaning it does get a little loud but I think that is just more evidence that it is a worthwhile place to go.

§ One Response to Trudy’s Tex-Mex: an absolute must for any Austinite

it was a huge disappointment to find out they changed their mexican martini price from $5 to $7 on mondays. I asked a waiter about it the other day and he mentioned that a part of the reason was because people come and sit down four hours and just get one $5 martini, which was really not helping them in any way — i guess that reasoning makes it a little less hard to swallow.
