Every day, 4 pm – 6 pm
705 West 24th St # B
Sushi Niichi, located on 24th street between Rio Grande and Pearl, has been a favorite happy hour restaurant for my friends and me since we first discovered it a little over a year ago. In terms of the location, it is perfect for college students who appreciate cheap, but well prepared sushi and an array of different alcoholic beverages. One of its only downfalls is the small parking lot, where patrons often park behind people who are already in the restaurant, creating a bit of a problem when the people who are blocked in need to leave.
It has a decent selection of several different sushi rolls and alcoholic beverages from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., all at extremely reasonable prices. These days, everyone knows how expensive both of those items can become, so this restaurant is a great option for people who enjoy them but cringe at the high prices they might pay for them at normal restaurant hours. Some of the more elaborate sushi rolls are closer to $6 or $7, but many of the others do not go above $4 for 8 pieces of sushi. Though some of the sake options are closer to $8 or $9, most of the imported beer and wine options are $3 or $4.
Though the restaurant was considerably more crowded when I went, this was most likely because of Round Up weekend. Most other days, Sushi Nichi is pretty full but not to the point where it’s difficult to hear the people you are sitting with. In general, the atmosphere is quite pleasant, and sometimes patrons are seated in a more intimate area that is separated by means of bamboo mats.
Overall, Sushi Niichi is definitely one of my favorite restaurants for sushi, which is one of my favorite food items, and cheap drinks. The service and location are great, and the food tastes fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, whether they’re interested in sushi, cheap alcohol, or a combination of the two.
